Today is a simple DIY video on changing the water filter on a GE side-by-side fridge. This video was filmed on GE model: GSS25IYNBHFS.
Not all water filters are the same. Best to read the info and verify if NSF 42 and 372 certifications. Some will filter out more chemicals like VOCs, THM, copper and chlorine and some will do more or less. Please don’t just look at the price when purchasing only. Generally the water filter lasts about 6 months.
GE fridge model have a very simple design for replacing the water filter. In this video, I’ll walk thru the how-to step to change the water filter.

This is our 2nd update on our whole house rainwater filtration system running 100% off grid meaning off solar. Perfect for an system. Can by within a City or even out a cabin totally off-grid. Rainwater is your best source for drinking water out there. 3 stage filtration get 99% of sediments removed on top the carbon filter reduces any chlorine you might had added to your rainwater to kill off any bacteria. Homemade Water Filter! The 3-stage “Tuna-Can” water purifier! simple to make. works fast. made with 3 tuna cans, a plastic bottle and coffee filters (along with sand, gravel and activated carbon). great for SHTF Emergency, camping/hiking, off-gridding or everyday use. activated carbon filtering removes hundreds of contaminants from water and cleans the water of dirt, silt and sediment. it also removes any bad taste/odor or color and restores it’s clarity and good taste. *the 3 cartridge system keeps each level separate so mixing won’t occur and it makes it easy to clean or replace each level as necessary. also makes it easy to dry. just take apart and air dry after each use.
Homemade Water Filter. DIY water filtration. simple design. needed: plastic bottle, sand, gravel. small piece of cotton and activated carbon (can be found at walmart/pet stores and wherever aquarium supplies are sold). filter should last 2 to 4 weeks before you have to change carbon. remember to rinse activated carbon before using it (or water will have a blackish color). when SHTF in an emergency be ready.
Many of you have asked how to filter water, without boiling it. The Black Berkey Elements are water purifiers! Here you will find out what I use and how well they work for me. Quick comment, I was asked by a sub, whether the filters needed to be primed? Yes ABSOLUTELY, they come with a rubber gasket that is tan in color, to do the job before you use them for the first time in the Berkey.
From a filtration perspective, the Black Berkey’s filter out the same chemicals and contaminants that the Super Sterasyl Ceramic Filters do, but go above and beyond by removing Lead, MTBE’s, and other heavy metals. In addition, since the Black Berkey’s are water purifiers, they filter out bacteria to a 99.99999% level and viruses to a 99.9999% level. The black Berkeys also filter out Chlorine to undetectable levels, while the ceramic will only remove 90%.

We updated our Old PUR Basic to the New PUR Advanced Faucet Filtration System. We had to change our nice pull out faucet since the adapters did not work with the aerator connections. Think twice when your buying a nice pull out faucet and if you want to keep your PUR at the same time.
