Essential BACKCOUNTRY GEAR. All about WATER FILTRATION, lighten your pack, SAFETY IN THE BACKCOUNTRY

Essential BACKCOUNTRY GEAR. All about WATER FILTRATION, lighten your pack, SAFETY IN THE BACKCOUNTRY

In my constant search to photograph backcountry wildlife, I rely so much on the backpacking and outdoor gear that I carry with me. Having clean, drinkable water is crucial to any type of outdoor recreation, but it’s something we don’t think about and take for granted. In this week’s video I will discuss filtering water in the backcountry, the different types of water filters you have available to use, the pros and cons of each type and some tips to help ensure you have safe, drinkable water in the backcountry.

Many people carry large amounts of water with them on their nature outings. This is great, but it can also add a lot of weight to your pack and once you’re out, you’re out. There are many benefits to using water filters, knowing what exactly they’re filtering and being familiar with the water sources in the area you’re exploring or passing through. I’ll cover all of this information in this video.

If you’re interested in what other backpacking gear I use, check out my other video where I review my sleep system (link below), and stay tuned in the coming weeks as I upload additional videos revolving around other backpacking gear that I regularly use.

Thanks so much for following along, I appreciate all the kind words and honest feedback. Have a wonderful week, and we’ll see you next Sunday!

DIY Emergency 5 Gallon Water Filter / Filtration System for $35 SHTF Bushcraft Berkey Royal Doulton

DIY Emergency 5 Gallon Water Filter / Filtration System for $35 SHTF Bushcraft Berkey Royal Doulton

This video shows how to make and use the home made Berkey type water filtration system. This one is made for less than $35 in parts and you will see that it will turn the nastiest of Oklahoma water in to clean SAFE drinking water in a reasonable amount of time. This system is NOT super fast (yet…give me time) but it will clean 5 gallons of drinking water in about 24 hours (Website says 14 per day) . I believe that I may have figured out how to speed that up to 5 gallons in an hour or so, stop back and see it I make that work. This works GREAT and is SOOO much cheaper than the store bought systems that do the same thing.

Build your own off of Amazon!!! Add Air pressure and make it 4x as fast!!!

Shocking Water Filter Review & Comparison: Berkey, Doulton, Reverse Osmosis, etc.

Shocking Water Filter Review & Comparison: Berkey, Doulton, Reverse Osmosis, etc.

After over two decades and $1,000 in cost buying, using and testing water filters I share my experiences and recommendations on water filters. I review the pros and cons of several water filter and purification systems including Berkey, Doulton, Reverse Osmosis, Monolithic, Just Water, Zen, and Ceramic Candle water filters. What you hear and my recommendations might just shock you.

DECEMBER 2012 UPDATE: This was a personal message sent to me, “”True story :Berkey sent my unit 2 years ago a full berkey setup for a roaving camp “near iran” snipers/SF mostly.
Used NOTHING but the berkey for 2 years. Put the most discusting water with slight radiation and horrid chemicles in it. Worked 100% every time.Sent samples to our water treatment guys….impressed the sh@@ out of them. LITERALLY we ran our berkey 24/7 .Never had one medical issue related to drinking the water. That crown is still in the field today. I am home now with a big berkey…loving it.” The moral of the story is, if you have to trust you life on your water filter working, trust a Berkey filter.
